Shepherds for Sheepdogs

"Shepherds for Sheepdogs INC. is a non-profit charity composed of a competitive, team-based obstacle course race. Its primary purpose is to raise money to purchase service dogs for our veterans and first responders."

Shepherds for Sheepdogs Website

What is the program?

Shepherds for Sheepdogs, Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Lenoir, NC whose purpose is to purchase and pair professionally trained service dogs with veterans and first responders that are struggling to cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or the lingering effects of Traumatic Brain Injuries.

Why is it important?

Unfortunate statistics show that, on average, 22 veterans commit suicide every day due to PTSD and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). The opportunity to recognize and serve our veterans and first responders is one of the greatest causes we feel we could ever give back to.

How do they achieve these goals?

Shepherds for Sheepdogs 3rd Annual Obstacle Course Race will be on April 20, 2024. All proceeds from these events are allocated to purchasing dogs and specifically pairing them with their person. The main event features a competitive, team-based obstacle course race while supporting events include a non-competitive team-based obstacle course run/walk, a team-based relay run, and raffles. Partnering vendors also donate a percentage from all merchandise, food, and beverages sold during the event.

What does Fortified do?

Fortified K9 contributes by either raising and training K9s for veterans or by training their current K9 companions to better fulfill their needs. These programs are anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks and include sessions with the veterans to enable smooth K9 integration into everyday life.

We love being able to channel our passion with K9s into a wonderful program that allows us to support our veterans.

Soleil has done what no VA treatment or medication have been able to do. She has normalized my life. She isn't a pet; she is family.
